Augmented Reality (AR) enhances our experience of what is around us, allowing us to see and interact with digital information in the physical world. We are excited to introduce our AR beta feature to the TreePlotter™ app! You can now hold up a mobile device and view nearby trees through the app to see information about them. It is currently only available on iOS (Safari) but will be expanding to Android soon.
How can I add it to my TreePlotter application?
If you already have TreePlotter, reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will gladly to turn it on for you! It is a beta so it’s free to test out but will have very limited support.
Once you have the AR beta feature installed in your application, there’s a few phone settings you will have to take care of. First, go to Settings > Safari > ‘Motion & Orientation Access’ and make sure that is turned on. This is crucial in order for the AR feature to work properly.
Next, log on to your TreePlotter application and go to Hub > Data Tools > Augmented Reality. This will open up a new window for the AR. Start by positioning yourself on the map. You can even zoom in on the map to help you be more accurate with this step.
When you’re ready, click on ‘Start AR’. During the initialization process, it’s important to keep the phone upright and as steady as possible. Note, every time you move away from your starting location, you will have to reinitialize. You should now be able to view your existing tree data in AR!
